Robert Edward Knoetgen passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024 under the care of his son Peter in Ponte Vedra, Florida. Born July 4, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY to William and May (Mary) Knoetgen. He was preceded by his wife Carole, younger sister Mary and older brother William Jr.
Robert (Bob) is succeeded by his sons Peter and his children Christopher and Natalie and John, daughter-in-law Roseanne, children John Michael, Thomas and Francesca.
His early life was spent in Brooklyn where he went to Father Bishop McLoughlin Memorial High School, was an Alter boy, played Baseball, and ran Track. In his Senior year became class president. Then Bob went to Pratt Institute graduating with BA in Electrical Engineering which would be his career for the rest of his working days. During this time Bob would meet Carole Gooden and they would get married on June 30, 1956. And continued his education receiving two masters.
Soon after they would move to Merrick Long Island and then further east to Huntington, NY where they and their children would live for over 20 years. Bob enjoyed skiing, but loved sailing, joined racing leagues with friends and won the championship one year. Then moved on to golf. Played many years socially. Bob and Carole eventually would move to Northeast Florida in 1995 and continue to play.
Professionally he worked in the Aerospace industry for Armor and Sperry but mostly at Grumman working is way up to Director of 1000 employees. A couple of highlights were as an engineer on The Lunar Module for the Moon landing, satellite optics for defensive detection of missile launches, guidance systems for ICBM’s and electronic jamming systems. Bob would eventually move and work as a consultant in Washington DC before officially retiring and moving to Florida.
Bob currently resides alongside his wife Carole at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery.
