Robert Francis Schroder, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 76. Born September 17, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, Robert lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan Schroder, whose love and care were a constant source of strength for him. Together, they created a beautiful life, from their honeymoon days in Queens to raising their family in Holbrook, New York to their sunny retirement days in Jacksonville, Florida. All those years were filled with warmth and affection. Robert is also survived by his son, Michael Schroder, and his wife, Kelly; his eldest daughter, Barbara LaGalia, and her husband, David; and his daughter, Stephanie Schroder-Loveland, and her husband, Donald. Each of his children carries with them the values and love he instilled in them throughout their lives. Robert leaves behind his friend and brother, Ronald Schroder. He was predeceased by his parents: John and Margaret Schroder; brother, John Schroder; and sister, Lynne Degenfelder.
Robert was a proud grandfather to his beloved grandchildren: Jack and Henry LaGalia and Schroder and Murphy Loveland. They will forever hold dear the memories of their time with him—his witty sense of humor, his playful jokes, and the joy of sharing stories about trains, shooting pool, and playing dominoes. Robert had a unique ability to bring smiles to their faces, and his legacy of love will continue to resonate in their lives.
A hardworking man, Robert dedicated himself to providing for his family, always putting their needs before his own. He found great joy in reminiscing about his youth in Brooklyn with his parents and siblings, sharing tales of his trucking days at Hunts Point Market, driving a school bus after he “retired” and mostly celebrating “Family Traditions” that brought everyone together. Robert was an extremely smart man who taught himself many skills such as how to cook Chinese food, build and repair computers, and how to make sure he never picked the winning horse. His passion for life and love for those around him were evident in everything he did.
A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held on December 30, 2024, at 2:30 PM, at Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate the remarkable life of a man who was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
Robert’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever. May he rest in peace knowing he was surrounded by love throughout his life.
