Robert H. Zielske PE, ISA Fellow

Mr. Robert Zielske passed away on July 16, 2023, at Vicar's Landing Retirement Community. Born on February 25, 1929, in Elmhurst, II, he was one of four children born to Mr. & Mrs. William Zielske.

Robert attended the University of Illinois and Illinois Institute of Technology, graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He joined a major instrument firm and later in his career, joined Georgia Pacific's Corporate Engineering Department to become their Chief Instrument Engineer.

Robert married his high school sweetheart, Jackie Freeman, in 1951, and they enjoyed life together until Jackie passed away shortly before their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Mr. Zielske was a very active member of The International Society of Automation, filling positions as the Director of the Pulp and Paper Division, Vice-president of the Industries and Sciences Department and Chairman of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Society's In Tech magazine. He was also President of the Atlanta Section of ISA. Mr. Zielske was a registered professional Engineer in the field of "process control" and was elected an ISA "Fellow" for his original work on continuous pulp stock blending. He has authored papers on instrumentation and was also a "series editor" for a group of fifteen "Practical Guide Series" books on Industrial Measurement and Control. His paper "Graphic Development Guidelines For First Time Users" became a TAPPI Standard. His work required extensive travel throughout the United States and overseas. Mr. Zielske was in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War.

Robert lived at various times in Chicago and Downers Grove, Illinois; Rochester, New York; Portland, Oregon; Atlanta, Georgia; and Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. They resided at Vicar's Landing. Mr. Zielske was chairman of the Properties Committee at Vicars Landing and was also on the properties committees at Sawgrass Country Club and Palms Church.

Robert is survived by his four boys, Gregory, David, Kurt and Steven Zielske and by four daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held September 12, 2023, 3 pm, at Vicar's Chapel with a reception to follow at Vicar's Landing.
