Ronald C. Hettenhouser, husband of Vickie Bivens Hettenhouser, passed unexpectedly at home in Jacksonville, Florida on November 24, 2025. Born February 4, 1947, Ron was the son of Eileen (Eckerd) Young and Charles Hettenhouser. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vickie; a half-sister Connie Brewer; niece, Lorna Pitzer; and nephew, Terry Brewer. Of the Bivens family, surviving Ron are seven sisters-in-law, five living brothers-in-law, fifteen nieces and nephews, and a life-long friend, Sam Hess and wife Joanne.
Ron was an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida where service will be held for immediate family and friends in the area. A private memorial service will be held in Martinsburg, WV for family in January or February 2026.
Ron graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1965 and Shepherd University in 1969.He joined the United States Air Force, serving in the Presidential Honor Guard, Bolling Air Force base from September 1969 to April 1973. He pursued a long career with International Business Machines (IBM) before he retired in 2008.
His community involvements included serving on the Mayport Council Board of Directors, United States Navy League and leading the city of Jacksonville to its first hosting of the Super Bowl on 6 February 2005. His passion was being on the water as demonstrated with his sailing resume of over 18 years on both sail and power where he navigated the beautiful Chesapeake Bay, Caribbean and Pacific Ocean.
Ron is with his Lord and Blessed Mother Mary and predeceased family and friends.
