Rose Wittemen, 78, passed away gracefully on Sunday, September 13th, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on December 28th 1947, Rose lived a life defined by quiet devotion, steadfast love, and an unwavering commitment to those around her. Like the tree in Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, Rose gave of herself constantly, joyfully, and without ever asking for anything in return. A teacher by profession, she ultimately devoted her full energy to supporting her husband Al’s career and raising their son Jason — yet she never stopped teaching, guiding, and nurturing the people she loved throughout her life.
Rose’s generosity was expressed in the everyday acts that made her presence so comforting. She was a fantastic cook, the keeper of every birthday and anniversary card, and the person whose home felt like the safest place in the world. She cherished her Hallmark movies, sudoku puzzles, and a good book, finding simple joys that reflected her steady, thoughtful nature. Her sharp wit and shrewd advice — always delivered freely and with uncanny accuracy — were treasured by anyone lucky enough to receive them. A devoted dog lover, Rose delighted in spoiling her four legged companion Ella almost as much as she adored spoiling her grandchildren, Eleanor and Sam.
Rose was predeceased by her sister Mary and is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Al; her son Jason and daughter in law Jessica; her grandchildren Eleanor and Sam; and her younger sister Rena. Simply put, to be in Rose’s circle was to feel cared for, supported, and loved without condition. Her giving spirit, her steadiness, keen intellect, and the everyday kindness she offered so effortlessly will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her inspirational legacy lives on in the countless small acts of love she gave so naturally — reminders of a life rooted in generosity, devotion, and the quiet power of showing up for others.
