ROY PATRICK HATTEN
September 15, 1959 - February 6, 2022
“…Be a simple kind of man; Oh be something you love and understand.” - Simple Man, Lynyrd Skynyrd
Roy Patrick Hatten, devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, entered into eternal life on February 6, 2022, following a draw with cancer.
Although Roy was a visionary man of so many talents, he most excelled at making everyone in his life feel loved and appreciated. His strong faith showed in everything he did, whether ministering as Jubilee the Clown or advocating for the unborn and their mothers. Roy’s love of God attracted people to him like a magnet, be they young or old. There were no strangers, just friends he had not met yet. During his more than decade long tenure as Anesthesia and Perfusion Assistant at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Roy was a strong prayer warrior for his patients and coworkers.
Roy was blessed to work with some of his boys at Miller Electric for a short time before becoming ill. Roy was quick to tell you that his greatest pride was that of his children, Roy “Patrick” Hatten, Jr. (Theresa), Spence Hatten (Taylor), McKenzie Zelenock (Nathan), Anne Brand (William), and Neil Hatten (Linnea). He felt doubly blessed by the spouses God had given each and considered them his own daughters and sons. He is beloved Papa to his surviving grandchildren, Elizabeth Hatten, Adelaide Hatten, Roy Patrick Hatten III, Amelia Hatten, Finnegan Zelenock, Ronan Hatten, William Brand, Callum Hatten, Xavier Brand, Sawyer Hatten, Scarlett Zelenock, and Mariemma Hatten. He was predeceased by his grandchildren Felicity Jane Hatten, Stephen Ambrose Zelenock, and Bernadette Faustina Zelenock who were never far from his thoughts.
Second only to his love for the Father was Roy’s love for his wife, best friend, and soul mate Rosemary Birch Hatten. The two were inseparable. Their love for each other and for our Lord magnified the light in which they walked. It is with tender heart that Rosemary waits to rejoin her beloved Roy.
Roy is also survived by his brothers, Robert Hatten (Rhonda) of Naples, Florida, and Steven Hatten of Dilworth, Minnesota. He will be missed by his sisters-in-law, Susan Birch Hightower (David) and LouAnne Birch Hawkins (Christopher), aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and an abundance of friends.
All are welcome to join us Friday, February 11, for the Wake at Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:00.
