Sara (Sally) Barnhart (Peterson) Heuer, 82, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024. Born on February 16, 1942, in Johnstown, PA, she was the cherished daughter of Dwight and Helen (Hipp) Barnhart. After the passing of her father, Dwight, she was lovingly adopted by her stepfather, Charles E. Peterson, who raised her as his own. After graduating from St. Andrews University in NC, Sally moved to Jacksonville, FL, where she taught science at John Gorrie Jr. High. She later served with dedication at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Sally was known for her love of gardening, cooking, sewing, and her deep affection for her beloved dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Barbara J. Rice and Elizabeth J. Rice, her husband, Richard A. Heuer, and her son, David A. Heuer. Sally is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth B. Heuer, and her sister, Charlotte P. Emrich.
A committal service to celebrate Sally's life will be held at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery on September 20, 2024, at 4 p.m. Her family and friends will forever hold her memory close in their hearts.
