Shelbie Jean Scifres Kindred went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 4,2023. She is now reunited with her husband, James, who passed away on March 25, 2014, and other loved ones. Shelbie was the third of nine children born to Allen and Geneva Scifres on March 19, 1939, in Lincoln County Arkansas.

Shelbie graduated from Glendale High School in Glendale Arkansas in 1957 as valedictorian of her class and an outstanding basketball player. She moved to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1960 where she met and married James in 1962. They were married for 51 years and enjoyed traveling, square dancing, and playing cards and games with friends. They were active members of First Christian Church in Mandarin for many years and served as deacons in the church. Shelbie's career was in mortgages, and she was employed by Stockton, Whatley, Davin and Banc Boston for 29 years. Growing up on a farm instilled a strong bond with nature for Shelbie. She loved birds, animals, and gardening where she felt the closeness of God in her life.

Shelbie is survived by sisters, Shirl Kahler (Taibi), Pat Dorr, Diane Howard (Mike), all of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Paula Smith (Dave) of Dallas, Texas; and brothers, Burl Scifres (Jeania) of White Hall, Ark and Gary Scifres of Jacksonville, Florida. She is also predeceased by her parents,  Allen and Geneva Scifres, and her two brothers, Raymond (1955) and Donald (1995).

Shelbie will be remembered as a caring friend and devoted sister with an unwavering faith in God. A Celebration of Life Service will be Monday August 28,2023 at 1pm at the Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in her memory to Community Hospice.
