Susanne Helena (Brouillard) Hord, 79, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving children, in her home overlooking her beloved Palm Valley Golf Course. "Sweet" Sue as she was affectionately known, was born in Springfield, Ma. on April 16th, 1946, to Victor and Elianne (Richard) Brouillard. In 1965, she met and fell in love with Jack Hord, and they were married in 1969. Sue graduated from the University of North Florida, in 1972, with a English Degree. She was a school teacher in Jacksonville, FL for several years. In 1983, Sue and Jack bought Pro Golf Range in Jacksonville, their first foray into running a golf facility. Then in 1988, Sweet Sue found the land that is now Palm Valley Golf Course, and helped set out to transform it into a place where people of all ages could come together, for the love of golf, and play the game at an affordable price. Sue and Jack, along with their parents, did all the work to turn an old horse farm into a beautiful landscaped golf course. She meticulously maintained all the landscaping, which became the heartbeat of the 9-hole layout. She was an incredibly hard worker, doing many jobs way beyond her tiny 4'11" frame should allow. She was also in charge of all finances, merchandise, supplies, and managed the staff and Pro Shop. Her dedication to Palm Valley Golf Course is why families and friends still have a fun and relaxing place to enjoy golf. Even in her last years, she would still ride next to her son, pointing out all the little things that need to be done, adding it to her list.
Sue loved to laugh and joke around. She enjoyed life to its fullest, whether it be riding her Harley with Jack, or trying to do the dirty dancing lift on her 70th birthday.
Sue was was preceded in death by the love her life, her husband Jack Hord; parents, Victor and Elianne Brouillard; and sisters, Marianne (Brouillard) LaPierre, Madelianne (Brouillard) Rappleyea, and Susanne Eva Brouillard. She leaves behind her son, Christopher Hord; daughter, Julie Hord; sister, Elaine (Brouillard) Delano; brother, Richard Brouillard; many nieces and nephews; and all the wonderful customers (family) who have kept their dream alive.
All are welcome for a celebration of Sue's life to be held Thursday, August 14th, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at Palm Valley Golf Course: 1075 Palm Valley Rd., Ponte Vedra, Fla.
