Teresa Philomena Kennedy
Teresa Kennedy, 95 years old, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away in Jacksonville, FL, on Nov. 26th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a spirit as vibrant as the Irish hills of her youth. Born to Patrick and Mary Ann (née Devaney) O'Donnell and raised in County Mayo, Ireland, Teresa was the second youngest of 16 children.
In her late teens, Teresa left Ireland, embarking on a journey to America to begin a new chapter in her life in New York City with her sisters. She was an impeccable waitress having trained at Schrafft's NYC, an establishment known for perfection. She met her husband in the Bronx and they eventually moved to Trenton (Hamilton Township), NJ where she lived for over 65 years. She raised a family there, while continuing to serve at various catering and food establishments throughout her life.
Teresa loved her son and daughter deeply; they were her pride and joy. She was happiest during family gatherings, happy hours, and while sharing the joy of Irish songs and dance with family. Her love for Irish dancing and music brought her immense joy and was a testament to her lively spirit and appreciation for her heritage. Teresa loved singing all Irish ballads and songs, and in her later years, "Take Me Home To Mayo" was a constant refrain.
Teresa Kennedy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
Teresa was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, her daughter, Mary, and 15 of her siblings. Surviving are her son Thomas (Elaine) Kennedy, her son in law, Richard Habres, granddaughters, Kylene Kennedy, Kelly (Josh) Barbee, Karlyn (Marcus) Dion, and her great-grandson, Shane Barbee.
