Thomas Michael Newman, “Mike”, 70, passed away July 10, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Miami, FL, on February 20, 1947, to Charles and Vera Ann Newman.

Sitting on the dock with his loving wife, Deborah, enjoying the beauty of God’s creation, was one of Mike’s favorite pastimes.  When he could find the time he also enjoyed fishing, playing solitaire, watching football and movies, but especially spending time with his constant companion, Duke, man’s best friend.

Mike proudly served six years in the Coast Guard, actively from 1966-1970, followed by two years in the Reserves at Yorktown, VA, where he was an instructor at the USCG Reserve Training Center.  During his time in service, he went through Class “A” Engineman School, Instructor's School, the Coast Guard Institute Course, and earned the National Defense Service Medal and Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 233, while also supporting the Wounded Warriors and Disabled American Veterans.  Mike was also a faithful member of Ponte Vedra Presbyterian Church.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Newman; children, Michael T. Newman, Christopher E. Newman (Cooie), Timothy W. Newman (Nicole), Stephen C. Newman (Mariah), Mitchell W. Lamb and Michelle M. Smith (Brandon); siblings, Patricia A. Cohen, Charles W. Newman (Diane), and Pamela A. Zitello; 13 grandchildren, many amazing nieces and nephews, and his sweet beloved dog, Duke.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 22 at Ponte Vedra Presbyterian Church, 4510 Palm Valley Rd, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082.  In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations be made to the Coast Guard Foundation (www.coastguardfoundation.org), the National Association of Veterans and Families (www.navf.org), and K9’s for Warriors (www.K9sforwarriors.org).
