William P. Rosenblatt of Ponte Vedra Beach passed away peacefully on June 25. He was born October 23, 1938 in Cleveland, NY.  “Bill” is survived by his wife, D Lynn Gordon; daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Ben Clark (Jacksonville); son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Kristie Rosenblatt (Tampa); grandchildren, Tyler and Madison Clark; soon-to-be granddaughter, Kayli Rosenblatt; sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Bill Cobb of Dallas, TX.

Bill was an exceptionally devoted family man.  Family meant everything to him.  He loved hosting family meals on any holiday that came up and loved to cook.  Bill especially loved spending Christmas Day with his family.

Ever since Bill was a little boy he wanted to be in law enforcement.  When asked why, he told his wife, “I think people deserve to be safe and protected and I want to dedicate my life to that goal.”  He graduated from Michigan State University in what was the only university, at the time, to have a law enforcement major.

After college, he joined the US Army and served in RECON in Laos before the Vietnam War and later in Germany and was highly decorated.

When Bill returned to civilian life, he started work in federal law enforcement in the US Customs Service.  He had a storybook career starting at entry level and working his way up to the top law enforcement job in the agency, Assistant Commissioner for Enforcement.  He served in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and as the Special Agent-in-Charge, Miami.  Bill met his wife Lynn at US Customs in Washington DC where they both served as federal executives.

Bill enjoyed bass fishing, playing poker, traveling with his wife, eating breakfast at the Beach Diner in Ponte Vedra Beach and loved dining at other local restaurants.  He was a member at Sawgrass Country Club and enjoyed dining on the Oasis Deck overlooking the ocean.  He was an avid reader often finishing 3-4 books a week.  When he retired from US Customs, he did consulting work and trained to be a poker dealer; he worked part-time in an Indian Casino in South Florida just for fun.

Bill spent his last several months in the loving care of the Beach House Assisted Living in Jacksonville Beach and the last few days under the care of Community Hospice.

He will always be remembered for his kind and loving heart, generosity, quick wit and sense of humor.  He kept us all laughing.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017, 1 pm at Ponte Vedra Valley.
